HappyChecker - Rapidshare Happy Hours Checker Firefox Extension

Written by Apu on 1:49 AM

I finally got the time to finish my Firefox extension which alerts the user whenever Rapidshare happy hours are active. Was thinking of creating a vb.net application to do the same but decided to come out with the extension first, just because it is easier and more convenient to use. And I may build the windows application for the users who don't use FireFox, sometimes later.

The extension checks Rapidshare at regular intervals for happy hours and would display a message to inform the user whenever Happy hours are active. In case, you don't know, Rapidshare happy hours is the period of time when Rapidshare allows you to download a file without you having to go through their CAPTCHA.(the annoying Rapidshare 'Cats').

I would improve the extension in next version (to be released soon), by adding features like manually configuring the time interval to check for happy hours (currently it checks every 30 minutes), keyboard shortcuts to check on demand etc.

I have tested the extension in Firefox 2.0.0.x Please try out the extension and give your feedback, on features and report if you find any bugs,by commenting in this post. It would help me create a better version soon.

I've just submitted the extension to AMO, and its still showing under their experimental category. You can download it from the link below.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7353

Edit:
The extension doesn't have any user interface and hence it wouldn't show up anywhere in firefox. It works in the background and would display a message (like below) whenever happy hours is active.

Where it's supposed to appear in Firefox, I don't see any presence of HappyChecker. A screenshot or two will definitely Firefox users.

@eches , thnx bro for trying it out. The extension doesn't have any user interface and hence it wouldn't appear anywhere in firefox. It will check for happy hours in background and would display a message whenever happy hours are available.

which version of firefox you are using? I've checked it just now and it works fine. Pls note that you'd only get a message when happy hours is active else, you won't get any message.

Once you've installed the extension it checks for happy hours - first when firefox is started and again after 30 minutes of that. In between if you open a new window, it will check for happy hours. The time you checked and took the screenshot might have fallen within the 30 minutes period when it sits idle. Just to check, try opening a new Window(not tab) when happy hours is active. If it display the message it should be okay. Else try uninstalling and reinstalling it again. It should be okay as I am using exactly the same FF version as you and its working fine here.

Sorry about that login thing. The extension is sttll sitting in Experimental category in AMO and to download experimental add-on you have to login.

Icon-in status bar is a brilliant idea. I wish I find enough time to develop the extension more soon enough, as so many people have found it useful. :-)
